Zayed International Prize
for the Environment

It is with great pleasure that I invite you to nominate individuals and organizations for the inaugural Zayed International Prize for the Environment.

This Prize was established in honor of a unique statesman and a dedicated environmentalist, His Highness SHEIKH ZAYED BIN SULTAN AL NAHYAN, President of the United Arab Emirates and Governor of Abu Dhabi. Sheikh Zayed is the man whose vision and unwavering commitment to the environmental cause helped turn the Arabian Desert green. He pursued his goal with unparalleled dedication and achieved what many experts believed was impossible.

The Zayed International Prize for the Environment, however, is not just a Prize – it is an institution, which endeavors to promote sustainable development through various environmental protection initiatives.

In addition to administering the prestigious Prize, this newly-established Institution also organizes regional and international conferences and forums on specific environmental issues, publishes a scientific journal, conducts and supports scientific research, and helps raise environmental awareness through public lectures, seminars, workshops, as well as through the development of relevant information materials.

The individuals and organizations nominated for this Prize should represent the spirit of this true environmentalist, who for more than 30 years, has fought to ensure that the environment in the United Arab Emirates, in the region and around the world is safeguarded for future generations.

I hope that his vision will live forever in the hearts and minds of the UAE people and all those who receive the Prize, which bears his name.
